Unique Residential Project – Update

Originally constructed in 1908, this unique shingle style structure served for many years as the official residence of The Ohio State University President. The current Owners have now commissioned Rogers Krajnak Architects for our fourth project at this prestigious home.  The Owners collect historic artifacts and recently acquired an 18th century hand carved wood fireplace mantel that commemorates a 1701 battle from The War of the Spanish Succession between Austria and France. The project involves the placement of the historic fireplace mantel in a small, intricate addition that serves as a backdrop to the existing first floor kitchen breakfast area. The addition fits strategically into a recessed area at the rear of the residence. Due to the imposing 11’-4” height of the historic mantel, the ceiling of the addition is higher than the existing first floor ceiling, which also impacted the new second floor level above. The raised second floor portion of the addition provides a new children’s study loft. The new lower level provides additional fitness room space.  Below are some images of the construction progress.

Darryl Rogers, AIA, LEED AP Interviewed in Columbus Monthly

In the Home Building 2012 section of this month’s issue of Columbus Monthly, Darryl discusses RKA’s experience with converting master bedrooms into master suites, and the emphasis on high quality design in maximizing value and conserving space, which are among the “Hot Trends for 2012” in residential design.

The additions and renovations designed by Rogers Krajnak Architects to this home in Bexley, Ohio were featured in the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) 2011 Home Improvement Showcase. The project included the construction of a new family room, master bath, walk-in closet and mudroom. More information about this 13 home tour can be found at this website. RKA congratulates Joel Walter and the crew from NJW Construction for their great work on this renovation and addition.

Renovation of Frank Lloyd Wright Apprentice Designed Residence

Rogers Krajnak Architects has been commissioned to renovate this home in Lancaster, Ohio which was originally designed in 1948 by architect Noverre Musson, an apprentice of Frank Lloyd Wright. The renovation will respect the Usonian architectural principles of the original design while updating the kitchen, study, living room, bedroom and bathrooms. New custom cabinetry, built-in light troughs and mid-century retro appliances will be skillfully integrated into the project.
