Rogers Krajnak Architects, Inc. participates in the 2008 AIA Columbus Chapter Canstruction

On March 3, 2009, a team of volunteers led by Rogers Krajnak Architects, Inc. and Ruscilli Construction Co. assembled their entry for this year’s Canstruction Columbus event from 2,232 cans of food.  Held at the Center of Science and Industry (COSI), and sharing space with the exhibit “Frogs, a Chorus of Colors,” the event managed to raise awareness both for hunger and the environment with this year’s theme of “being Green.”

RKA and Ruscilli Construction’s response to this year’s theme is a design featuring a sphere (representing the earth) circumscribed by a triangle of three arrows.  The arrows represent the actions that are the moral imperative for responsible consumers: reduce, reuse, and recycle.  Judges awarded the design with an Honorable Mention.

Rogers Krajnak Architects, Inc. participated in the 2008 Canstruction event, where local architects built giant sculptures made entirely out of canned goods and other non-perishable foods to help feed hungry people in Central Ohio. All of the food used in the structures was donated to Operation Feed via Mid-Ohio Food Bank.

In response to this year’s theme, “One can make a difference,” Rogers Krajnak Architects, Inc. constructed one giant can made of 8 different varieties of canned goods totaling 1760. The can labels were oriented to form the giant can’s label, which was an image of a knife, fork, spoon and slice of bread: the logo of Mid-Ohio Food Bank.
