This congregation has been worshiping in facilities on this Westerville site dating back to 1838. The original building has been replaced with structures built in 1887, 1923, 1959, 1963 and 1988. Rogers Krajnak Architects, Inc. has designed renovations and additions to the existing facility and is planning for new construction across N. State Street in Uptown Westerville, Ohio.
The goals of the renovations and additions to the existing facility are to provide more visibility from N. State Street to the activities within the first floor of the building, to expand the gathering space and to expand the size and improve the flexibility of the existing chancel.
The gathering space improvements include the construction of a new entry, gathering spaces, seating areas and a library. The existing gathering area will be renovated to allow for the existing space to flow into the new gathering space. The daylight from existing internal courtyards and the windows in the new gathering areas will provide an open light filled environment prominently located along the State Street facade.
The existing chancel will be expanded in size on a continuous floor plane in order to improve the flexibility for the space to accommodate a variety of worship activities. A new north transept will be created with north facing windows that will improve the natural lighting in the chancel. The chancel expansion will also accommodate an expanded bell choir area and expanded pipe organ chamber. |
