WESTGATE SHELTERHOUSE IMPROVEMENTS
Columbus, OH
<< Back to Project List
Columbus Recreation and Parks department commissioned Rogers Krajnak Architects to renovate the 5,110 square foot shelterhouse in Westgate Park. The structure, a centerpiece of Westgate Park on the west side of Columbus, accommodates various community activities including wedding receptions, family gatherings and community events. The renovation includes the creation of a new accessible main entrance, lobby, office and kitchen within a portion of the existing building that was a former residence. The new vaulted wood and stone entry porch was designed to allow the new shelterhouse entrance to be easily identified from across the park.

The project includes new windows and doors as well as new lighting, new air conditioning and mechanical systems upgrades throughout the building. Restrooms will be upgraded and a bride’s room will be created. In the Meeting Hall, the opening in a former stone fireplace will be altered and expanded in order to create a new passage from the new lobby. Once completed, the renovations will allow the facility to accommodate community activities year round.
